Sini

Years ago, I went to the British Museum and looked at their collection of calligraphy. I still remember a handful of inscriptions and scrolls combining the Arabic and Chinese calligraphic traditions, which sounds like it wouldn’t work but actually is elegant and subtle. This style is known a Sini and originated in the 14th century in Central Asia and Western China. Haji Noor Deen is a contemporary calligrapher practicing in the Sini style; below is an example of his work from a recent exhibition.
