William Huskisson has earned his place in history by being the first to be killed by a motor vehicle. In 1830, he was crushed by Robert Stephenson’s locomotive Rocket during the opening of the Liverpool-Manchester railway. He couldn’t get out of the way of locomotive running at 30 mph in time as he wasn’t used to that kind of speed.
