I’ve lived in the state for 10 years and only recently learned that California has an anthem. I’ve never heard it performed anywhere, for any occasion. It’s so obscure that I couldn’t even find any spoofs, hard as that may be to believe. The reason for its lack of prominence likely is that it’s… not good. The lyrics seem like they were written by a reluctant sixth grader as a homework assignment and the melody is forgettable. A state that produces so much great music deserves better.
