This is from an essay by Wendell Berry in the Whole Earth Catalog. Having followed the Long Now Foundation for years, I knew about the Whole Earth Catalog, but I had never encountered a copy until Thanksgiving, when I encountered a copy in a corner of an old house we stayed at in Mendocino.
The party line of individualism made me think of those driving lifted pick-ups with Don’t Tread on Me stickers on the back.
