Few people working in the humanities have extensively tested the latest large language models, and most people base their opinions on what they have heard or read others say about them. This is surprising, as those who write and read for a living are well positioned to judge an algorithm that reads and writes. Henry Oliver has more on this on his blog, The Common Reader.
I checked, and The London Review of Books or the Paris Review don’t have anything recent on AI. The New York Review of Books has a section dedicated to it, but the last article is from June 2023, 21 months ago. All three otherwise have articles and reviews that are relevant to current events.
I understand that AI isn’t popular in the humanities, but what happened to the poet not averting his eyes?
