Some trivia: I’m 80% sure that writer Thomas McGuane makes a cameo appearance in the music video for Jimmy Buffett’s 1974 song Come Monday. 70 seconds into the video, Buffett and his girlfriend pick up a couple of hitchhikers, and the guy looks too much like McGuane to be a coincidence. The other hitchhiker is even harder to identify but it could well be Buffett’s sister, who later married McGuane.
Neither Google nor ChatGPT were able to confirm this, but it’s plausible. McGuane and Buffett, together with writers Jim Harrison and Richard Brautigan, were friends and hung out together in 1970s Key West. All That Is Sacred is a documentary about that time and place that I like and have written about before.
