The worst job I’ve ever had was also my first. This helped me later in life, with every job I’ve had since having been an improvement.
The work was at a call center that paid only slightly more than minimum wage and in retrospect was extremely badly run. I lasted for a few months before moving on. The day I quit, I felt relieved, but that wasn’t enough to let me forget to grudge I held against the company and especially the managers.
On my last day, I logged into the phone of each manager and changed the message on their voicemails to a series of obscene grunts and yelps. I then set up a password for each account so that they couldn’t change it back. Because it was a call center, I knew they would be getting hundreds of calls to their voicemails during the day. It didn’t take long before they noticed what was going on. For the rest of the day, I observed their frantic efforts to get rid of the messages. I’m pretty sure they suspected me since it was my last day and since they could probably guess from my voice I was the culprit, but none of them was brave enough to confront me.
It’s still one of my proudest accomplishments.
