My Second Day At Work

Like so many minds of my generation, best or otherwise, I came to California for work. The biotech company that hired me paid for my relocation and sponsored my visa. Its campus covered several hundred acres on the outskirts of San Francisco. It was so big that a fleet of shuttles transported employees between the different buildings.

On Monday, I had a new employee orientation in the morning. In the afternoon, I met my manager, who picked me up from the orientation and walked me to my office, where I met my future colleagues and settled in.

On Tuesday, I arrived back on campus and realized that I had no idea where my office was. There were dozens of office blocks, each of them four floors or more. I was supposed to meet my manager at 9am and I was running out of. I realized that there was no chance for me locating my office or even the correct building. In desperation, I entered a random building and asked the first person I encountered if they could please look me up and tell me where I was supposed to go. I don’t remember their reaction but I’m sure they were amused.

In any case, I eventually found my office and worked there for the next four years.
