The Limits of Intuition: Will we ever be able to understand the quantum world?

I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics.

Richard Feynman

Out intuitions aren’t innate. We can shape and train them; it’s what we do when we learn mathematics, as David Bessis argues. Mathematicians are smart, but they have also trained their intuitions to be aligned with mathematical truth.

How far can we push our intuitions? We can train our bodies, but there are hard physical limitations we can’t transcend. Ursain Bolt’s 100 meter world record is 9.58 seconds, and it’s extremely unlikely that anyone will be faster than 9 seconds. Do our intuitions have similar limits?

Will we ever be able to intuitively understand the quantum world with all its weirdness? Or is it too different from everyday experience? We’re already able to compute much of quantum physics, but how about developing the kind of intuitive understanding that makes it make sense to us? Is there anyone with an intuitive understanding of entanglement, particle-wave duality, or collapsed wave functions?
