Palmer’s: What do a San Francisco bar and an Austrian lingerie brand have in common?

There is a bar on Fillmore in San Francisco that has the same name and logo as a popular Austrian lingerie brand with dozens of branches in Vienna and other major cities. The logo isn’t just similar, it’s identical.

There must be a reason behind this undeniable but unexplained connection. Did a member of the Palmer family in Austria migrate to California and open a bar? Did the bar owner see the logo while traveling in Europe and use it? Was there an older entity, like a family coat of arms, that was used by both the bar and the underwear stores?

There is no indication what connects the two businesses online. The bar tenders, while friendly enough, have no idea what I’m talking about. Even after two drinks, I’m acutely aware how my questions about lingerie may be perceived. The mystery continues.
