Some of my favorite travel writing is by Tahir Shah. The Caliph’s House and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice are wildly entertaining. I also enjoyed Timbuctoo, Shah’s fictionalized account of Robert Adams, an American sailor getting enslaved in Africa.
While Shah has had success as a writer, he’s a failure on YouTube: Most of his videos get less than 1,000 views. This is unfair, since many of them are worth watching. His channel is here. Of his recent videos, I particularly recommend his conversation with his twin sister, Safia Shah.
