What Fidesz Wants: On the goals of the Hungarian far-right party

On April 12, elections in Hungary will decide if Viktor Orban and his Fidesz party will remain in power. The center-right opposition party, led Peter Magyar, is leading in the polls.

Orban, since becoming prime minister in 2010, has transformed the country. This article by Alexandre Lefebvre explores what Orban, Fidesz and similar right-wing parties in other countries actually believe. Their intention is to shape society according to their values of love, loyalty and faith, even if it means reducing personal freedoms and democratic expression. Hungary is now the only country in the European Union that is only partly free according to the Freedom in the World index.
