Unabhängigkeitserklärung: The Declaration of Independence in German

I like that the United States, unlike other countries, isn’t descriptive about its national language. While all three branches of government conduct their business in English, this is just a pragmatic choice, and not one that it has been necessary to codify into law. Not everyone sees it that way.

When the colonies wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776, they did so in English, but to reach the 100,000 colonists who only spoke German, it was translated within hours. Here is an article about that document, and below is the document itself.
