Sensing North: An app that probably won’t work

Is there anyone who can sense where magnetic North is? I don’t think so, but it’s an interesting question that I’ve written about before. Now, Mikhail Samin has made Sonic Compass, an app that aims to teach people to intuitively know where North is. Samin doesn’t claim that people who use Sonic Compass learn to sense the Earth’s magnetic field, or make any claims as to the app’s chances of teaching anyone this (probably impossible) skill.

I’ve tried Sonic Compass for half an hour, but so far it’s too early to tell if it has any chance of working.

Thanks to Slime Mold Time Mold for the pointer.
