Only in Memories: The places that don’t exist any more

There are places that once existed and that are now only memories. This comes up when talking to old Iranians, who remember their country before the mullahs took over in 1979. There are also those who grew up in the orange groves of Los Angeles, which have been replaced by houses and businesses.

There are those who knew the Colorado River before Glen Canyon Dam. Edward Abbey was one of them and wrote about it. There are other ghosts of Glen Canyon, and Morgan Sjogren writes about one of them here. His name was Gus Scott. The essay also has links to photo archives showing Glen Canyon when it was still a place, rather than a reservoir. Here is some footage of Glen Canyon before the dam.
