My kids brought these cones or buds home, and I haven’t managed to identify them. Maybe they’re Kniphofia buds. They’re geometrically almost perfect, with two sets of narrowing spirals, one clockwise and one counterclockwise, running up to the tip. Unlike pine cones, they’re smooth to the touch and elastic.
